My name is Anna Laman. I am a Junior student-athlete at Stanford University in California, majoring in Communication (Journalism) and minoring in International Relations. I was born and raised in Sydney, Australia with my family of 6.
I am a Division 1 athlete, competing for Stanford's Track & Field and Cross Country teams. I have competed internationally for Track & Field, most notably in 2011 at the IAAF World Youth Championships and in 2013 at the IAAF World Junior Championships for the 1500 meters.
At the moment, I specialize in sports writing at Stanford, writing for the Stanford Daily. But I have greater interest in the health, culture and political spheres. I would love to pursue journalism via a TV/broadcasting platform in the future.
My hobby for writing started at the tender age of 8, writing personal memoirs about my own experiences. Today I have continued to pursue my writing passion through internships at The Daily Telegraph in Australia and The Mountain View Voice in Palo Alto. I also enjoy blogging on The Culture Trip & Runners Tribe about culture and sport. These internships have opened my eyes to a future career in journalism.
I believe that journalism lies at the very core of human experience - working with people, about people. I love meeting new people, learning about their personal experiences and reporting on them. I look forward to continuing to build on my knowledge through future internships & I hope that I will be able to pursue a broadcast journalism career after I graduate from Stanford University in 2018.
